La Liga of 2009

After 11 seasons, Sporting Gijón went back to play at the stadium La Rosaleda, this time to confront the locals from Málaga CF, who were opaque during the first part of the game by a Sporting that knew how to impose despite they could not count with some of their key players. Half hour later Málaga managed to score and from then on they reemerged and took control. For the second half the Sporting reached inefficiently change the scoreboard, but the level of game the locals had didn’t allowed them, finishing with a 1-0 result in favor of the “Boquerones”.

On another encounter, Almería that presented the Mexican Hugo Sánchez as their new coach faced Real Betis. The match, in whom both teams looked quite even, obtained at the 34 minute the emotion of goal, that came along for Almería. For the second half the game was developing with the same intensity that in the first part, with both teams trying to take an opportunity to score, but without any real hazardous move that alarmed the other. The game finished 1-0 favoring the “Red-Whites”, who with this triumph reached a position ahead Real Betis on La Liga’s general position table.

Taking advantage on the mistakes of their rivals, Recreativo de Huelva managed to leave the table’s lower zone by defeating Numancia 3-1, in the match none of the two clubs performed to effectively at the beginning. At minute 18, following a failed penalty kick from Soria’s group, the scoreboard lighted up for ‘Recre’ that started to take charge of the situation, but couldn’t reach the box contrary. When the complementary part started, the second goal from Recreativo arrived, who were attacking with all their strength and who celebrated their third score in the 60’; once again after a failed penalty from their rivals. On their part, Numancia achieved just one mark on the scoreboard, right before the end of the game (90).

On their first match of 2009, Real Madrid defeated Villarreal 1-0, who although did figure out how to control the central position of the field, weren’t capable of stopping the “Whites”. The big hero of the encounter was without a doubt Real’s goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, who gave an incredible performance impeding the rival’ scoring. With this conquest, the “Merengues” start positively the New Year and with the chance of placing themselves in the qualification spots to the coming 2009/10 UEFA Champions League.

Tied 1-1, finished the clash between Athletic Bilbao and Espanyol, remaining both protagonists comfortable with the result. On one side the “White and Blues”, who even though continues on the descending zone ended satisfied for making at least one goal before a strong rival. While on the other hand, Athletic felt content of avoiding the 0 from their side of the board, with a goal on the last minutes that puts them on the 13th position.

Lack of emotions, low inspiration and even bareness were the elements that characterized the game between Valladolid and Racing Santander, in fact the lack of action gave the impression that it will conclude goalless. For the 3 first quarters of the match the situation staid the same way emotionless, in which all they did was defend their spaces with really low weak attacks. Until minute 64 and thanks to a slip-up from Valladolid’s keeper, el Paraguayan Justo Villar; Racing attained the victory with the 1-0.

Another match tied was the one faced between Sevilla FC that before the game was on the third spot of the standings, and the unfortunates from CA Osasuna that continues on the bottom position. This confrontation that as well as the last mentioned didn’t show much excitement or good moves, had some irregularities during the whole event, with some casual scores. Close to the end of the match, both groups tried to unbalance the results, but they weren’t good enough.

Practically on the first quart of the meeting La Coruña and Getafe tied; but thanks to a mistake by Roberto Abbondanzieri that end up becoming into a good penalty, Deportivo La Coruña obtained a victory (2-1) before Getafe, who since their promotion to First Division has not been able to win the first game of every new year.
